The Legacy
The Man Who Started It All.
In 1936, a Harlem postal worker named Victor Hugo Green did what no one else would do for Black America. He built a directory. The Negro Motorist Green Book listed the restaurants, hotels, barbershops, gas stations, and businesses where Black families could travel, eat, sleep, and be treated with dignity across a segregated country.
What Victor Green created was not just a travel guide. It was infrastructure for Black self-sufficiency. Every listing was a declaration that Black business mattered, that Black safety mattered, and that Black dignity was non-negotiable. For nearly thirty years his book carried our people forward.
Black Plate Directory carries his complete vision forward in 2026. Every restaurant. Every professional. Every salon. Every business. Every community. Every generation. What Victor Green wrote in ink, we build in pixels — with the same mission, the same care, and the same unshakable belief in Black prosperity.
